The original saying from Mahatma Gandhi is “If you want to change the world, start with yourself”.
In the days of information we live, it is pretty easy to create the false idea that you will change things around you. Actually if we make a vote, i believe 99% of people will tell you they would like to change the world. But if you make the question personal, the vast majority of people will say that they will not change themselves.
It is pretty easy to show off to others. To tell them what to do and what not to do. How about doing the same thing with the mirror? Then things will start becoming difficult. Cause changing ourselves needs dedication. Needs really effort. A lot of energy and probably sacrifices. That most people are not willing to pay the price.
But the history is full of people with heroic mentality, that changed or sacrificed themselves to make a real change to the society. And the biggest reason we admire this “Samurai” attitude is we feel that away from our way of thinking. The way that we always criticize others but ourselves, the way of forgetting telling the truth and chasing a fake like.
But the only way to build something different in your neighborhood, is starting building a different house within yourself. And once you do it, the neighborhood will start changing on it’s own.
